Beer Of The Week: Rhinegeist Fluxion

Rhinegeist Fluxion is another Belgian Style Pale Ale rarity and is considered the cousin of Fiction, a beer I featured last week. To be honest, I feel the same way about this one that I did that one. Yes, using Hallertau Blanc makes this beer more experimental, but it’s just not a Belgian Style Pale Ale. The body and character is wrong, and the flavors of white wine and melon just keeps me from enjoying it. In real life, I’m not a fan of either of those flavors, so there’s no way I’m going to go for it.
Maybe they call it Belgian Style because it has some spiciness to it, and a Pale Ale because of its body. If that’s the case then it makes sense. But why not the big mouth feel and unfiltered look of a Belgian style beer mixed with the upfront hop smash from an IPA? Now that would be interesting. Maybe I’m picking the wrong attributes of this mash up style to judge it on, but that was my initial feeling when I tried the beer so I’ll stick with it.
